Downtime?

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

There may have been some downtime… I was just checking access to Linky Land and it wasn’t responding for a few minutes. I’ll investigate with our hosting provider. In any event, we apologize for the incident.

Did I forget something? **UPDATED**

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

OMG, this is impossible. WP is wreaking havoc on the code I’m trying to post. Let’s try it a different way. This code belongs in your head section next to the script tag.

Perma-Linkies!

Friday, October 20th, 2006

No, don’t worry. I haven’t invented a new kind of linkies.

It’s been brought to my attention that there are Linky users that wish to have a more permanent record of their links, beyond the end of a meme. They wish to take their links and save them as HTML into their post, so that Technorati and Google will treat them as a permanent part of the text of the post.

If you’d like to do this, here’s what you do. First, log in to Mister Linky. Second, sit back and relax. At the end of the meme, when you’re done collecting links, go to your blog. Below your linky you’ll see this message:

Blog Owner: If you wish to export this list to HTML, click here.

Note, only YOU will see this message on your blog. Everyone else will only see this message on their OWN blog. And if you don’t ever want to use this feature and you don’t ever want to see this message on your blog, let me know and I’ll find a way to disable it on a per-user basis click the Options link at the top of Mister Linky’s Site and look for widget settings.

Anyway, when the meme is over you can click on that export link and get the HTML for your links. You can then go into your post and replace the Linky script with this HTML. The links will then be a permament part of that post, forever and ever.

As always, let me know if you run into any problems.

Wizard Updated

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

I’ve updated the Widget Wizard in a couple of places.

First, I now distinguish between WordPress (the web’s finest blogging software, by the way, if you ask me, which some of you have) and WordPress.com (the web’s worst free hosted blogging solution, if you must know). The former is used happily by everyone who has tried it, while the latter is so inflexible that you can’t add much of anything to it at all.

Second, I’ve added specific instructions for using Blogger Beta (yuck, if you want my opinion) with Ever-Linkies. You CAN use Comment-Linkies with Blogger Beta, but I haven’t finished writing those instructions yet, so I’ve disabled it in the wizard. Please file a support ticket if you need to get Comment-Linkies working with Blogger Beta.

The WP Plugin

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Please find updated information about the plugin here

The Linky plugin, that is.

For some reason I thought I’d put it out there, but apparently I didn’t. So here it is: blenza.zip — here’s the new link

Download the zip file and inside is blenza.php. This goes in your wp-content/plugins directory and needs just one customization:

/*************************************************************
** Customize this section only. **/

$owner_blenza_id = "yournamehere";

/************************************************************/

Just replace the yournamehere with your Mister Linky ID. It’s that simple!

And then to use the plugin, put this syntax in a plog post:

[blenza_autolink code]

…where code is one of the following (for now):

mm  — Monday Memories
ccm — Click & Comment Monday
ww  — Wordless Wednesday
tt  — Thursday Thirteen
ff  — Friday’s Feast
sh — Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt

So for Thursday Thirteen you’d have a line at the bottom of your post that looks like this…

[blenza_autolink tt]

That’s all there is to it. Keep in mind that while I’ve been running this trouble-free for a couple weeks now, it is beta software. So if you run into any problems, please don’t hesitate to contact me. In case you didn’t know, there’s a help desk system running so you can enter a ticket here. This way, no matter how full my mailbox gets, nothing will fall through the cracks.

Enjoy!

One other thing — if you do try the plugin, please leave a comment here. That way I know who to contact if I release an update. Thanks!

“Real” Links for Blogger

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Lingerie Lady K has an interesting comment on her Thursday Thirteen. She’s planning to re-type her Linkies in order to make them “real” for the search engines. I will work on providing a button that spits out the HTML so that nobody actually has to type them in. You’ll be able to just paste the code into your blog once TT is over. Stay tuned for this new feature!
